Keys to a Healthy Immune System

According to Harvard Medical School, these are the building blocks for a strong Immune System:


  • Eat a diet high in fruits and vegetables. Many of the nutrients and compounds our bodies need to thrive are found in fruits and vegetables. Eat the rainbow - a balance of all colors of fruits and vegetables is simple and a great place to start.

  • Exercise regularly. Walk every day, take the stairs instead of the elevator. Elevate the heart rate several times per week. Yoga, Pilates, tennis, spin - the options are endless. Bicycle or walk to work/school.

  • Maintain a healthy weight. Try intermittent fasting to burn stored fat. Reduce sugar and salt intake, eliminate processed foods. Eat slowly and mindfully. Reduce portion size.

  • Sleep, sleep, sleep. Many studies reinforce the importance of adequate sleep. Sleep is when our bodies heal and rejuvenate, and prepare for the day ahead. Turn off the TV and be still for 30 minutes before you retire.

  • Take steps to avoid infection. Wash your hands frequently. Cook meats thoroughly. Sanitize surfaces you come in contact with. Clean, clean, clean!

  • Minimize stress. This is a big one. Meditate. Walk in the forest. Do breathing exercises. Practice mindfulness & kindness. Think only happy thoughts. Send loving thoughts to your friends and family - and enemies.

  • Don't smoke. Heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure. It’s your choice.

  • If you drink alcohol, drink only in moderation.
